ELSON "SHATTAH AYOW" GLOSTER
I grew up in Barrouallie (Bagga), St. Vincent and the Grenadines. All my roots are from the Leeward coast of St Vincent.
I attended the St. Vincent Grammar School for my secondary level of schooling, then moved on to Community College. It was while attending college that I received word that I will be moving to the United States, which has been my new home since 21 years old.
The Same year I moved to the U.S., I joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served with them for four years – I never re-enlisted.
I moved back to New York from Hawaii to be with my family (Hawaii was where I was stationed).
After moving back to New York, I returned to college life where I attended Baruch College and received my BBA degree in Accounting in 2016. Knowing my drive, I didn’t stop there. I went back to college again, this time for my MS degree in Taxation.
I graduated in 2018. In between, I worked a few temp positions and internships. I worked as a full-time Accounts Payable Accountant at The Morgan Library and Museum and then as a full-time Tax Accountant at a mid-sized accounting firm, Friedman LLP, in New York. I currently work as a Tax Accountant in New York City at Constantin Associates, LLP.
I got my nickname, which I settled on as being my artiste name, “Ayow”. It is funny how I got to be called that. So, one of my friends would always pass by my house to call me to go and play. Each and every time I would hear “Ayowwwwwwwwwww, you ready?” Everything was Ayow this and Ayow that. Therefore, it stuck on me and everyone in Barrouallie has known me by that name for years up to this day.
I got the inspiration to perform soca music from big and well-known artists like Bunji Garlin from Trinidad, Mr. Killa from Grenada, and Skinny Fabulous from my very own island home St. Vincent.
I always knew I had it in me to pick up a mic and entertain a crowd of party people. So far, I have written all of the musical material I performed. I try my best to manage my job and still find time for the studio.
